BAPTISM

Baptism is a vital milestone in the faith journey of every Christian!  As children express an interest in baptism, we want to equip your family with all you need to encourage your child in taking this step forward with Jesus.

Water baptism is the simple act of immersing a person in water as a symbol of Christ's burial and resurrection. It is a public declaration of an inward confession of being a Christian. Jesus himself was baptized in water and he commanded in Matthew 28:19-20 that believers be baptized, "in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit." Any individual who has professed Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior may be baptized.

We believe that the biblical role of a parent is to confirm a child's decision to be baptized at an age they feel the child is able to recognize the true meaning of baptism. The Family Ministries team of Grace North works to partner with parents in supporting their child’s decision to be baptized.

Things you should know about Water Baptism

Being baptized by water is very significant and meaningful to you and your walk with God. It is an outward expression of a Christian’s desire to live for Christ! It’s a declaration of commitment and vital in a believer’s Christian walk. Baptism is a time of God setting us free from the things that keep us in bondage.

Many times as you are being baptized in water you will also be filled with the Holy Spirit. It is a step of obedience and going deeper in your relationship with the Lord. It’s an opportunity to publicly stand before your extended family, friends, the church, and God to commit the rest of the days of your life in following Jesus. We encourage you to personalize the day. Make it special. Create a memory that will last forever.

Here are some ideas we’ve gathered that may help:

1. Prepare your heart and expect the Holy Spirit to do amazing things in you as you are baptized. Come expectant to see Jesus move in your life during this time.

2. Prepare a special note or prayer that can be incorporated into the baptism.

(Time is limited so we ask that it stay under 2 minutes).

Some suggestions are:

  • What a blessing the Lord has been to you
  • What He has done for you
  • Promises God has spoken given you

3. Invite family and friends to join you on this special occasion.

4. If your child is being baptized, a parent or a Pastor of your choice could do the actual baptism.

5. Take pictures of this special day. If you have a video, digital, or regular camera, we would love to assist you by taking pictures of this precious occasion. We will also have our church photographer taking pictures.

6. Plan on a family gathering around food after the event is over.

7. This is a special day make it a day that will be unforgettable!
